The new juvenile curfew for Hilton Head Plantation. Too much?
Right across the street from Indigo Run sits Hilton Head Plantation.
I recently came across an interesting article in “Plantation Living,” which is the newsletter for the residents of Hilton Head Plantation. I found their new Juvenile Curfew to be a bit much to say the least.
On January 1st, 2008 The Property Owners Association of Hilton Head Plantation adopted the brand new Juvenile Curfew law. According to the new law “it shall be a violation of the Hilton Head Plantation Covenant Rules for any person under the age of 18 years to be upon the streets, or in any common area within Hilton Head Plantation, between the hours of midnight to 6:00A.M. unless such child is…”
The child must be accompanied by an adult or have some other excuse. There is a whole list of exceptions that if you are interested you can call Chief Art Benoit at 681-3843 to find out about.
What do you think about this law? What if such a law passed in Indigo Run? Would you allow it to happen?

This is one of the most onerous regulations I have come across in my 40 adult years. I realize there have been issues in that plantation but to impose this type of curfew is shameful. If this were proposed for Indigo Run, I would vehemently oppose it. Parents must take responsibility for their children regardless of age and fellow plantation owners should be keeping their eyes open all the time to know what is happening around them. A quality security staff like we have in Indigo Run makes certain this would not be necessary here and I am proud of the job they do. Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

Ken,
I could not agree more. This is essentially taking control out of the parents hands and putting it into the security of the plantation. It is amazing how the curfew passed.

What is amazing is how many parents have no idea what their children are up to after hours. Obviously HH Plantation was having problems with children getting into trouble because their parents weren't parenting. The only people to blame for this curfew is the parents who need to realize they have children and need to be responsible for them.
